Obama and Biden

That Obama still has a chance of winning after picking such an insensitive running mate just goes to show you how far America has to go come in overcoming its legacy of racism.
I will go out on a limb and correct(?) James Taranto here. I do believe this is what he meant.

That is quite a telling remark and one I happen to agree with. Based not on racism but on his history and policies, I find it remarkable that Obama has made it this far. This year's set of candidates are both shifted to the left. Obama very left and McCain barely right of center. I think this is a result of the Bush years and though I don't agree with the shift, I can at least understand it. I can not understand why Obama would pick Biden. It is almost as though he expects to loose and wants to make sure he goes down in flames. Biden can not speak for 5 minutes (he certainly can't speak for just 5 minutes) without sticking his foot in his mouth. He is an example of someone in office because the private sector would not have him. For Obama who was running as "a breath of fresh air in Washington" to pick Biden, the consummate insider is unbelievable. He would have been better served to pick Hillery (not that she necessarily would have accepted). When Obama loses, all of the pundits will yell "See America is still racist!" instead of pointing out that the Democratic party made a poor choice who then went on to make another poor choice.

I am not real happy with McCain but he an't Obama. He at least want to protect America first, second and third. I view Obama as another Jimmy Carter and don't feel that the country can take another one of those right now.

The other Obama

Does anyone think if Mr. McCain had a sibling living in a trailer park making minimum wage (892 times more than Mr. Obama's half brother's yearly income) that the mainstream media and the Obama campaign wouldn't notice?

Yet Mr. Obama has a half brother who lives in Africa on three cents a day, and the story breaks in an Italian magazine and is picked up by a London newspaper and a few others in Australia. Perhaps the story would be carried widely in America if they could figure out how to blame President Bush. But as Bob Geldof pointed out, he "has done more [for Africa] than any other president," and of the press harshly judged, "You guys didn't pay attention."
Nor will they pay attention that the McCains have adopted a poor Bangladeshi child and done untold amounts of humanitarian and charity work.

What makes this story newsworthy for Italians, Brits and Aussies, but not Americans, is that the U.S. free press is free to ignore stories that could take down their preordained president. And after the Internet and talk radio-driven "Swift Boat" story unexpectedly sank their last guy, the mainstream American press is taking extra precautions this time around.

No media bias here, nope none...

North Korea hates puppies too!

North Korea declares Sweden an enemy because they are acting as observers for the joint South Korean/U.S. operations taking place near the DMZ. Sweden is there to observe and ensure that the south and U.S. only perform defensive maneuvers. This is for the benefit of North Korea. So how does North Korea return the favor? They declare Sweden an enemy! Boy with friends like that...

Obama's convention to include "Real People" too!

This is rich!

The real people and delegates attending their first convention will be among the roughly 300 people sitting directly around the stage.

Professional speechwriters are helping prepare their remarks, timed to about three minutes each. And just like any senator or other VIP speaker, an assigned staff member will oversee their schedules and logistical movements, including media interviews, speech coaching and on-stage rehearsals.

So these "real people" will be assigned speech writers to "help" prepare their remarks! This is kind of like reality TV then, it will have nothing to do with real or reality! Also, they are supposed to be "real people" that have been selected to appear as part of the night's festivities. So the rest of the attendees are not "real". Well that actually does make sense. The rest of the attendees are politicians!

A world without America

Good idea for a site. The ad posted is interesting and I want to say it was good but I really think they could have done a better job. I rate it as fair. I think they could have listed more examples of U.S. solders not only helping to win wars but helping in humanitarian efforts as well.

eMail Joke: Lie Clocks

A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked, 'What are all those clocks?'

St. Peter answered, 'Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie-Clock. Every time you lie the hands on your clock will move.'

'Oh,' said the man, 'whose clock is that?'

'That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie.'

'Incredible,' said the man. 'And whose clock is that one?'

St. Peter responded, 'That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have moved twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his entire life.'

'Where's Senator Obama's clock?' asked the man.

'Obama's clock is in Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling fan.

More Obama-facts!

More Obama information that the grand MSM won't be telling you any time soon.

And you thought a boat was a money pit...

You should check out Ethanol!

Reason TV has an episode up on Ethanol. Ethanol, it takes more energy to produce than you get out of it, it causes more pollution than not doing it, it is subsidized out the wazoo so it is a money pit, it has transportation and storage issues... The only people that like it are the farmers and the politicians!

Non-partisan Accountable America

This is too rich! Accountable America, a new site set up by Tom Matzzie claims to be “a non-partisan, non-profit corporation.” and that “We do not seek to elect or defeat candidates or endorse candidates for federal office”.

Non-partisan , eh?

On the site’s “about us” page where I got the “non-partisan” line also includes this bit of information: Tom Matzzie is founder and chairman of Accountable America. Tom has worked in progressive politics for more than a decade—with MoveOn.org, the AFL-CIO, the Campaign for America’s Future and campaigns at the presidential and statewide level.

Non-partisan, eh?

The site’s meta tags (from the Google cache Aug 8, 2008 15:18:35 GMT now as the “live site” seems to have been edited) includes:

[meta content="" name="'description'"]Dedicated to electing Democrats to the state legislature across America[/]

[meta content="" name="'keywords'"]Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee DLCC state legislature Democrats electing Democrats[/]

I guess the meaning of the word “non-partisan” is different in liberal circles verse the real world.

Where is the "push for peace" left?

Apparently, they were all so enthralled watching the Olympics that they all completely missed the Russia/Georgia war that started a few days ago. I guess to get it noticed by the peace loving left, GWB will have to say he will commit troops or some such. It is not like Georgia had a democratically elected government or anything.

I guess the U.N. will pass a proclamation or some thing as well, if they can work up the nerve.

Oh, and before you say it, this is NOT like America and Iraq. There were 12 years of sanctions, talk, resolutions and a coalition of nations in support of that action. This move by Russia is NOT the same thing and you know it.

Nancy Pelosi the Empowerer!

You go GIRL!

While Madame Speaker advises America's daughters to "never draw a line in the sand," she refuses to return to Washington and allow up-or-down votes on Republican energy proposals.

While Madame Speaker advises America's daughters "to defend your position with facts," she has demonstrated blinking ignorance about the price of gas in her own district and the laws of supply and demand.

While Madame Speaker advises America's daughters to "treat one another in a civil way," she has resorted to business-as-usual demagoguery against her ideological opponents. Over the weekend, Pelosi denounced the conservative revolt on the House floor last week -- an objection to the Democrats' five-week recess -- as "a war dance of the handmaidens of the oil companies."

Oh the hypocrisy of it all!

Paris Hilton has a better energy policy than Obama

As Ann alludes to, I read this "ad" as being a number of things. I think it is somewhat funny, it does poke fun at McCain and I think it hits Obama hard. It makes him out to be a bigger air-headed celebrity than Paris. I think it helps McCain and hurts Obama. McCain should work to make sure people know about this.

See more funny videos at Funny or Die

As some of the commenters have posted, if the McCain camp were smart, McCain would say:

  • Since Senator Obama refuses townhall debates, maybe Paris will show up.

  • Mention the spot and comment again on his age.

  • Clarify that he and Paris actually DO have the same energy policy, unlike the other candidate that just wants you to add more "hot air" to your tires.

More stuff like that...

This ad from the McCain camp is not bad either though I think the Moses stuff at the end is a little cheesy.

25 Reasons You May be a Racist

5. If you think "Vero Possemus" is Latin for "Massive Ego" you... may be a racist.

Feds send man to prison for protecting town from flooding

Before the jury was dismissed to enter into deliberations at the conclusion of his trial, Judge Lynn Winmill instructed the jury, believe it or not, to disregard every bit of information from 1980 to 2002, including the Corps’ denial of jurisdiction and the mandate from local government for Mr. Moses to maintain the flood channel.

Instructed by this notoriously activist judge to ignore facts, reason and legal history, the jury returned with a guilty verdict, finding Mr. Moses guilty of “discharging” “pollutants” into one of the “waters of the United States.”

His conviction ignores the fact that no evidence was ever presented in court that Mr. Moses “discharged” anything into the stream bed at all. He only removed sand and gravel bars that were already there and which he was contractually obligated to remove. He was extracting material from the channel, not discharging material into it.

No evidence was presented in court by the EPA that there was any water at all in the stream bed during those years for Mr. Moses to “discharge” anything into. The EPA claims that “fallback” – material from the bank falling back into the stream bed – represents a “discharge,” but it offers no objective criteria for deciding how much “fallback” it takes to cross the magic threshold, meaning the EPA used sheer speculation to assert a violation.

Obama-nomics

Obama on Friday called for a $1,000 "emergency" rebate to consumers to offset soaring energy costs amid fresh signs of a struggling economy with the nation's unemployment rate climbing to a four-year high.

Obama told a town-hall meeting the rebate would be financed with a windfall profits tax on the oil industry.

So, Barack Obama’s great energy plan is to give consumers a $1000 to help them with the high price of gas and he is going to pay for it by... wait for it… taxing oil companies! What a brilliant idea! So let us see how this will work, shall we? Consumers get their $1000 dollars (nice bit of nation wide welfare, that) and the oil industry is then taxed to pay for it. The oil companies then are forced to raise their consumer prices in order to pay the extra tax resulting in (you guessed it) higher gas prices at the pump.

That could be a new campaign slogan for Obama. “How do you turn $4 a gallon gas into $5 a gallon gas without even trying? You Obama it!”. I hope he was a better lawyer than he is an economist, though that may explain why he is a politician.

Auditory illusion

Now this is really cool. It is called a Shepard scale and you have to hear it to understand. It appears to constantly rise in tone but never end.

Here are some other examples that play longer. Amaze your friends!
