Where have all the fact checkers gone?
The following was "swiped" from OpinionJournal - Best of the Web Today - April 26, 2007. The heading is "Big Lie" and includes current references by Reuters, MSNBC and the New York Times to the "lie" that Iraq tried to get Uranium from Niger.
As has been pointed out, discussed and documented on this blog and elsewhere like here, President Bush did not lie. A lie is more like "I did not have sex with that woman". In the case of President Bush, there was more than enough "creditable" evidence to support his statements. Unlike in the case of former President Clinton where the "dress" was more than enough "creditable" evidence to prove just the opposite.
How long exactly is it going to take the MSM to get off of their lie and report the truth? Do any of them have any fact checkers on staff anymore or are they all so blinded by partisan politics that they no longer recognize facts?

Yep, that sounds about right, most in the press seem to think "let us ban together to change the world for the better since the common man just does not know what is good for them". They have long since given up on reporting "just the facts". Now even the simplest, most straight forward (usually incomplete) "story" includes commentary and bias.

More stupidity from the network nightly news
ABC did another story on the “wage gap” tonight. I know, I don’t watch the news but my wife does and I did not have much choice but to sit through it tonight. The stupid report of the night was that some organization is now reporting the women continue to make less than men because of discrimination. The report “said” that but of coarse it did not offer any proof. Instead the report stated that having a child costs a woman about 7% in salary, per child. The report also claimed that part of the reason that women right out of collage do not earn as much money as men in the same situation is due to women not negotiating whereas men often do.
I do not understand how either of these items are based on discrimination nor do I understand how, if a company really can hire a woman for 8% of what they have to pay a man for the same work, why any businesses would hire men at all? A company could immediately cut 8 or more percent from their payroll, reducing their operating expenses and be able to reduce their prices and increasing their market share. If this were true, you would see businesses doing it. Even women owned businesses are not primarily to fully women staffed. Why, if everything else is equal but the pay is less for women? It just does not make any sense to say women make less due to discrimination.
I guess it is my own fault, expecting the nightly news to bother trying to make sense.

No social or economic system is perfect in large part because people are not perfect. People are also not interchangeable pieces that can be allocated to any task. Despite what these teachers were trying to instill in these kids, the real world does not work that way, successfully on any reasonable scale. Collectivism may work fine for a commune of 10 to 20 people but you can not base a society of any reasonable size on it. No amount of educating or re-educating can change basic human nature, that each person will be better at somethings and not so good at others. Some of those skills will either actually be or perceived to be more valuable to society than others. With value comes power. Responsible use of power is key, not elimination of power and like it or not, the fact is that based on all we know as humans, a democratic republic based on a capitalistic economy is the most fair, most adaptable and most efficient system yet invented.

The NYT still doen't get it.
There are so many errors in this editorial that one has to wonder if the author is not living in some alternate reality where a completely different set of events occurred. It is almost like an episode of Star Trek.
The "common facts" lie is once more repeated in that "everyone" knows that the Bush administration was "out to get Wilson" because of his NYT Op-Ed where Wilson hits back at the Bush administration for the State of the Union speech and the famous 16 words.
The actual truth has been shown to be that it was Wilson who lied, about just about everything but why let that get in the way of a good story. His wife got him the Niger gig in the first place, the report he filed actually bolstered the case that Iraq was trying to buy yellow-cake uranium and that when his wife's name was dropped to the press to refute Wilson's claim that the White House sent him, she was NOT under cover. So it was not a crime to release her name.
The FACT is that this Libby trial should never have occurred in the first place. It should have been Wilson on trial if anyone. The fact that Libby was convicted of perjury during an investigation into nothing would be funny if it were not so very sad.
The fact that the NYT continues to beat this old drum after all this time and after the actual facts of this case have been exposed is both sad and pathetic, especially so since the NYT is held up as a "great" newspaper. This is just the latest example of how the MSM is a PR machine for the left.

Unions try to strong arm employees, with Dems help
Democrats claim that the most important right of any American is their right to vote but they are now attempting to deny that right to employees when considering whether or not to unionize. In order to form a union, union representatives must gather signatures from employees. This is a very public process. Employees may feel pressured into signing such a petition because their supervisor does or their co-works and friends do, even if they do not want to unionize. Hence the current requirement for a secret vote after enough signatures have been gathered, a vote where the employee is free to make his or her own decision without the pressure of co-workers or superiors. Currently when this secret vote takes place, in many cases unionization is not approved. This of course does not site well with Unions. To lend them a hand, the Democrats are attempting to get a bill passed that would remove the need for a secret vote. How nice of them. If this bill passes, the petitions alone would be enough to allow a union to form. A bad bill that could become a bad law.

I love this line "They are immigrants, through no fault of their own, not aliens." Right, they were kidnapped in the middle of the night and dragged to this country and held here against their will and forbidden to return to their home countries under threat of death. Get real. The term describes what they are "illegal aliens" They are in this country in direct violation of our laws and they are not citizens of this country. There may be reasonable and humane reasons for them being here but breaking the law, they are. Pasting over that fact with "nicer" sounding descriptions is BS. The growing "non story"...
As the trash pile that was the Clinton presidency continues to get kicked, yet more cockroaches scramble out. Is there no end to the deception of the Clintons and their cronies? Here we are, all this time after Clinton left office and we are still finding out about the going-ons. Samuel R. "Sandy" Berger is still "slightly" in the news and this story is still NOT getting the attention it deserves. I don't think that Murtha is a coward, not at all. He gave much for his country and has the right to say what he will. As an elected official though, one would expect that he would have a stronger understanding of both what is going on over there and what his effect and influence is over here. To be in the position that he is and appear to be so ignorant of the effects of his actions and words is inexcusable. He owes our current solders so much more.

Tribute given
It is an important and telling insight to see how one treats their foes both while they are alive and after they are dead. It tells a lot about the character of a person. Take for example the recent passing of Molly Ivens. This is what Kathleen Parker had to say “She was funny, irreverent and smart. It didn't matter that she was often wrong, in my view. What mattered was that she was good.” How often do you hear someone of the left speak that way about someone on the right, alive or departed? I was once told that “a conservative hates the message but a liberal hates the messenger” and that often seems to be the case from my vantage point. Conservatives often refer to what someone said, that they disagree with and will argue the point whereas a lot of the liberals that I have tried to have discussions with seem to take a different point of view as a personal slight and as a personal attack and as such, return in kind. This also seems to be a fairly recent change. I can still remember having heated discussions with others on topics ranging from the death penalty, minimum wage, government powers verses state powers and even religion over beers and still being friends that just don’t always agree. Now a days it seems most of the liberals I know don’t want to discuss things as much as agree on things and if you don’t agree, there is no longer any respect. As with Molly Ivens, that too will be missed.
Blogger upgrade
Well, after being anode invited for weeks by Blooger to upgrade to a version I did not want or need care for and setup a Google account I also did not want or need care for, I was forced into upgrading convinced to upgrade today. This is quite the coincidence as I was just reading yesterday about another blogger, maybe you have heard of her, Ann Alterhouse, who was having a nightmare difficulties with the new upgrade as well. Well after about 6 hours, my poort little blog has been upgraded and I can post again.
I really don’t appreciate having an upgrade jammed down my throat that requires I set up additional accounts and accept additional services that I don’t want. What is happening to Google? Are they turning into Microsoft? Is their vision the only truth for all of us? I greatly appreciate being offered additional options and services but I don’t appreciate it being pushed at me at the point of a sword.
