Harvard and the Military

Good article and worth the read. I am afraid though that its sentiments will fall on deaf ears. The left is all for respecting diversity as long as it is their diversity that you are respecting. Just like the left is all for free speech as long as it is their free speech. The left is all for inalienable rights as long as it is the ones they approve of.

Harvard is all about making a "statement" and kicking ROTC off of campus but they still seem fairly eager to continue to accept take Federal funds.

Typical lefty hypocrites.

I expect that Drew Faust won't take the offered advice and will choose to use this event as a political platform and I also expect that any media coverage will gush about her courage "speaking truth to power" and I unfortunately, I don't expect to be disappointed...

Finding a good plumber

[T]ry to find, you know, a plumber, a carpenter ‑‑ we have so devalued and disrespected the work that a lot of people don't go into it, and these are not only good jobs, these are really important jobs, and the more we look at how we're going to have to retool the economy and move towards clean renewable energy, we're going need a lot of people who are installing solar panels and putting up the wind turbines and doing the work that's going to make us energy independent. Those will be good jobs that can't be outsourced. So we've got to talk about it and then act on it.

Why is it that liberals always seem to need to tell everyone else that the rest of us need to value honest laborers? We already do. When I find an honest plumber or car mechanic, they have a customer for life. Conservatives value an honest days work no matter what the task. We just don't think we have to go around all the time telling everyone else they have to appreciate it to.

Me thinks this is a bit of projection and it goes something like, liberals think they are far better at tackling the big problems of society than everyone else because, well they just care more and "know" more. As such, they are BIG IDEA people. Little ideas like how a car engine works, how to change a tire, or how to fix or install a garbage disposal are just so beneath them and tasks more suited for "commoners". As a result, to not feel like such a snob, they go around reminding everyone else how honorable manual labor can be without having either much experience with it or understanding that everyone else already gets it.

William F. Buckley once observed, "Liberals say they want to give opposing views a fair hearing. Then they are surprised and shocked to learn that there are opposing views."

Fake but accurate?

...student journalist/College Democrat at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., admitted that she had drawn swastikas on her own dorm room door.

...she told the staff that she "only drew the final three of six swastikas on her door in an attempt to highlight what she characterized as GW's inaction.

Oh, it was political speech, well then that makes it all, all right.

This article highlights two things, one directly and the other indirectly. The first is this ongoing drive to manufacture news to fit the mime when you can not find it naturally. The other is this spate of manufactured hate crimes. Hate crime in and of its self is problematic because you are criminalizing thought. In this "new world" hate crime laws make it preferable to kill someone for money than it is to kill them for their race or sexual orientation. The victim is just as dead but modern society has determined that committing a crime for the second reason is worst than for the first.

If a hate crime is worst than a "normal" crime, should not a fake hate crime be just as bad as a "real" hate crime? Should not someone faking a hate crime still have to face the same penalties as someone that commits them for real? The intent is the same, to inflict pain and suffering against persons based on issues of race, sexual orientation, religion and/or other issues of prejudice. In this case, the student's hate crime was against herself and the rest of the local community because they were falsely inflamed and lead to believe that a crime was committed. They felt the same emotional pain and suffering at hearing and seeing the results of this student's fake crime as they would have felt had it been real. One could argue that a fake hate crime is actually worst than a real hate crime because of the emotional backlash that those who witnessed or heard about the original crime would suffer from, after learning that it was faked and their emotional involvement was wasted.

As is the norm these days though, cause "she meant well" and was just "trying to make a point" she will most likely get off with little to no punishment and may even be praised for her "courage" in bringing issues of race, religion and/or politics to light.

And then they started to eat their own...

SNL could not have come up with a skit as funny as this is. The left spent years talking this talk. Can the leaders of the left expect anything else from their rank and file? It is going to be a pretty funny election season this time around.
