This is a pretty nice ad that speaks to the heart of who does and does not care about illegal immigration. It highlights why "some people" chose to not get it.

City of Huntington Park, CA adds two illegal immigrants to its city commissions
Doing jobs that Americans won't do?
In addition to allowing illegal immigrants access to driver’s licenses and the state’s Obamacare exchange, now Huntington Park has given them an opportunity to actually govern legal American citizens.
These appointments, made by Councilman Jhonny Pineda, were achieved by getting around federal requirements for citizenship, as the young men are serving voluntarily and are not receiving any pay. However, not all Huntington Park residents are embracing the appointments.
Wow, just wow...

California now giving driver’s licenses to illegal alians
California has begun accepting driver’s license applications from immigrants who are in the country illegally.
The DMV expects 1.4 million people will seek a license in the first three years of a program aimed at boosting road safety and making illegal (ed. there fixed it for you) immigrants’ lives easier.
So, how does one know that the "illegal" is who they are claiming to be? How does one know that an "illegal" does not go to the DMV 3, 4, or more times to get a "valid driver's license" under any number of names? How long will it be until failure to accept one of these legal "illegal" licenses becomes a crime? By definition, an illegal immigrant is here against the law and is ALREADY breaking the law by being here. What part of "illegal immigrant" do these folks not understand?

Is this still America?
A chilling message from the cartels: Billboards with hanging mannequins warning cops to choose 'silver over lead' appear in Texas
So we now have the Mexican drug cartels blatantly threatening US law enforcement to except bribes or die. But according to the Democrats we don't have a border problem. We don't have an immigration problem. We don't have a crime problem. We need to reduce our immigration restrictions, open our borders and stop deporting illegals.
In fact it seems that the only things the US Government wants to deport are German homeschoolers and guns (fast-n-furious anyone).

Indeed, where is the "First"?
Thanks a lot John! You stepped in it big the first time around, trying to ram amnesty down our throats and here you are back-peddling on security first in order to score points with people that CAN'T EVEN VOTE while giving those of us that can ACTUALLY VOTE a big thumb in the eye. And you wonder why you are suspect by the GOP base...

Thanks for NOTHING, Sen. Feinstein
Now, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) has attached the perennial AgJOBS amnesty to the must-pass Iraq War appropriations bill. This was part of the “comprehensive” amnesty bill. She is carrying water for those in the agriculture sector who wantonly hire illegal aliens.
Illegals receive immunity for any Social Security fraud if they worked under a fake or stolen Social Security number. They’d get their own SSN. They don’t have to pay any back taxes owed on illegal employment.
Feinstein prohibits Homeland Security from using any information illegals provide on their legalization application for law enforcement. So, AgJOBS gives lawbreakers (illegal aliens and agricultural employers) immunity from past lawbreaking.
With friends like these, who needs enemies!

More illegal thoughts...
I agree with the general theme of the article and this is not just restricted to Navarrette Jr. It is a ploy used by nearly everyone on the "pro" immigration side of this debate. Most of the people championing rights and amnesty for illegals continuously, purposefully confuse the issue by mixing legal and illegal immigrants into the same pot thereby hoping to gain points for the poor, poor, pitiful immigrant that everyone is picking on. No one is picking on immigrants because as has been pointed out time and time again, nearly everyone has immigrants in their family tree.
What we are picking on and yelling about are illegal aliens and illegal aliens with an attitude of entitlement in that because they are here they should be treated at least as well as U.S. citizens are. It helps not one bit when our elected officials basically tell us, in response to our raising legitimate concerns, to just "get over it".

Who is helping to fund La Raza?
Who indeed, it would appear that La Raza gets funding from:
- Aetna Foundation
- Allstate Foundation
- Annie E. Casey Foundation
- American Express Foundation
- AT&T Foundation
- Bank of America Foundation
- Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
- Carnegie Corporation of New York
- ChevronTexaco Foundation
- David and Lucile Packard Foundation
- Fannie Mae Foundation
- Ford Foundation
- Freddie Mac Foundation
- John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation
- Joyce Foundation
- Mertz Gilmore Foundation
- Open Society Institute
- Rockefeller Foundation
- Target Foundation
- Verizon Foundation
- W. K. Kellogg Foundation
Do these companies and foundation founders (and our own government) actually know what La Raza is (and even care) and what this "organization" promotes? I was quite shocked by some of the names on this list and will have to adjust my purchasing habits accordingly.

Open Letter to Mexican President Calderon
President Calderon:
I was disappointed by misguided comments you recently made regarding U.S.-Mexico relations and U.S. immigration laws. Purveying misinformation and absurd allegations is hardly a positive step to building a constructive partnership.
According to the Associated Press you recently said, “You have two economies. One economy is intensive in capital, which is the American economy. One economy is intensive in labor, which is the Mexican economy. We are two complementary economies, and that phenomenon is impossible to stop.” Yes, both countries benefit by the 85% of Mexico’s manufacturing exports that come to the U.S., but people are not commodities. While I appreciate your concern for our joint prosperity, the economic and social ills that plague your country cannot be resolved by simply exporting your citizens to the United States.
It is undeniable that Mexico faces major challenges. Endemic corruption and the power of violent drug cartels still dominate everyday life across Mexico. Beyond the headlines, Mexico has deep institutional maladies. Mexico’s absurdly antiquated Napoleonic-inquisition styled legal system and the squandering of robust energy-industry opportunity by a poorly managed, state-run Pemex monopoly are just two examples of the kind of self-inflicted wounds that hobble your troubled nation.
I understand that you are attempting to resolve some of these problems and applaud your leadership in trying to do so. But what would contribute more to the long term stability of your economy and your country would be to focus more energy on addressing your domestic challenges and less on lobbying the U.S. to provide amnesty for Mexicans who have illegally entered this country with the blessing of your government. In doing so, you might be able to keep Mexico’s “best and brightest young men” in Mexico – where they can contribute more to Mexico’s economy than remittance payments. Unfortunately, your recent comments indicate that Mexico will continue its policy of encouraging illegal immigration and treating the United States as little more than a dumping ground for your social and economic problems.
In your speech yesterday to the California State legislature, you lectured the American people on how to improve our immigration policies. Why did you not propose that we model our policies on Mexico’s own policies toward illegal entry across your own southern border? Mexico expends enormous resources to prevent Guatemalans, Hondurans and Salvadorans from entering the country illegally, but you castigate the United States for wanting secure borders. Mr. President, in my neighborhood that is called hypocrisy.
You proposed in your Sacramento speech that “migration” be made “legal, safe and organized.” Mr. President, we already have such a program and it is called legal immigration. Over one million legal immigrants come through our ports of entry each year, not across our border fences. The American people set limits on the number of legal immigrants through our immigration laws, and it is not the job of the Mexican government to revise or expand those limits.
President Calderon, you are insulting the American people when you tell us that fifteen to twenty million illegal aliens in our country bring only benefits and no costs. I challenge you to give one concrete example of how the enforcement of our existing immigration laws violates anyone’s human rights. The people of Oklahoma are not anti-Mexican for passing laws to require verification of employment eligibility. The people of Indiana are not anti-immigrant for passing laws to require photo identification for voting. The people of California are not anti-Mexican for denying driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. The people of Arizona are not anti-immigrant for passing laws that deny welfare benefits to people who are in that state unlawfully.
It is no secret that the purpose of your visit is to influence the American election, and in fact your trip has been billed as a high-stakes effort to shape the immigration debate underway in the U.S. presidential race. What is perhaps more disappointing, however, is your attempt to insinuate that anti-amnesty sentiment here in the U.S. is the same as anti-Mexican sentiment. I am referring to your statement, “I need to change in the perception that the Americans are the enemy, and it is important to change the perception that the Mexicans are the enemy.”
It is both disingenuous and dangerous for you to inject this kind of xenophobia into this debate. The fact that the overwhelming majority of Americans support the enforcement of our immigration laws and take issue with the notion that we should reward illegal behavior, hardly qualifies as ethnic animosity or international enmity. What you must understand is that a treasured aspect of our national foundation is a respect for the rule of law. Perhaps if corruption were not so widespread and commonplace in Mexico, it would be easier for you to understand this.
President Calderon, in many ways your trip thus far has been a long series of mixed messages. You accuse the United States of recent protectionist trends, yet you heavily restrict foreign entry into Mexico’s energy sector through a massive, state-run Pemex monopoly. You assure American politicians that an open flow of cheap Mexican labor is not only benign but vitally necessary, but you take great care in securing your own southern border with Guatemala. You come to the United States purportedly to promote better political and economic ties with the U.S., but then issue a thinly veiled threat that Mexicans will regard the U.S. as an enemy if we refuse to provide millions of illegal aliens with unconditional amnesty.
President Calderon, I respectfully suggest that the next time you visit our country, rather than trying to influence U.S. policymakers or our election process, you take time to listen to Americans rather than lecture them. If you want to make changes in government policies, apply your energies to Mexico’s laundry list of problems rather than meddling in domestic American politics.

Standard Hollywood Storyline #4
Well it would seem that Hollywood has finally gotten around to updating that good old staple; storyline #4. It no longer is "bigoted blue collar white guy hates foreigner that helps him". It has been updated for the new millennium to include "bigoted blue collar white guy hates 'undocumented' work that helps him". This new expanded storyline made an appearance on TV this week in both Gray's Anatomy (old form) and ER (new form) storylines.
In the case of Grey's, a (black female) paramedic has a seizure while driving a rig that results in two ambulances being wrecked. The female paramedic has a (white) male partner who is very concerned for his partner and wants her to be checked out first. When they try to check him out, he tells his black female doctor that he wants a male doctor. When confronted with a black male doctor he then asks for a white doctor. This was because he had a swat-sticker tattooed on his belly and did not want the non-white staff to see it. If you watch the story, the white "bigot" did not follow any of the normal Hollywood bigot stereotypes, he appeared clean-cut, educated, well spoken and concerned for his non-white partner. He appeared to get along with his black partner and was concerned for her. The only indication that anything was amiss was his tattoo. At first I thought that they were trying to show the tattoo as a poor adolescent decision but based on the remainder of the story I think their real intent was to show us all that the white (what other kind are there in Hollywood) bigots still exist but have just gone underground (you can never be too careful around those white guys). As icing on the cake they have the "bigot" insist on a white doctor as a witness during his surgery to make sure that the female black and asian surgeons don’t have an "accident" while operating on him. Of course the black and asian doctors "rise above" this insult and operate on the man anyway and save his life.
In ER they follow the updated script and are even more blatant about it. They try to score extra points by tossing in the helpful illegal alien that does not speak much English. A blue-collar working man gets his arm caught and would have died except that he is helped/saved by a female illegal alien working as a cleaner (aren't they all?) and when everyone gets to the hospital, the man's bigot son blames the woman for his father's injuries. The woman (of course) has a son in collage (and doing quite well thank you) and her injuries are superficial. The two boys get in a scuffle at the hospital and plenty of the typical racial insults are used and the non-white boy gets to say how he in an American because he was born here. The writers try to cover all of the bases to make sure that you really dislike the white boy. Later the white boy tracks down the other boy and beats him with a bat. The second boy dies and then the first boy finds out from his father that the woman actually saved his life. He gets arrested and hauled away in cuffs.
Is this the only way Hollywood knows how to play this mime? That all white guys (sometimes gals) are bigots and all non-whites are down-trodden, hard working missionaries only trying to better themselves and their families? How about they mix it up just once in a while and try using a Muslim man that refuses to be treated by a woman? Or how about a black racist refuses to be treated by a white doctor? How about we use an actual story “ripped from the headlines” about a drink illegal alien driver with multiple convictions that runs over a little white girl? I would not hold by breath for that one, there are still some things Hollywood thinks is just too unbelievable.

Fine for thee but not for me
Yet another example of how Mexico has stricter rules and regulations that affect foreigners than the US does but that does not stop both Mexico and a number of US politicians from suggesting that we as a country are just too hard on illegals in this country. In Mexico, it is the equivalent of a federal offence to be in that country illegally and as this article makes clear, it is not legal for illegals in Mexico to have drivers licenses but here in the good old US of A, they are trying to hand them out like party favors. As most of our illegals come from Mexico, the least we can do is adopt their penalties for violators of our immigration and residency laws. It is only fair.

Reid reviving 'amnesty' for illegals
"reviving and fast-tracking plans to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens"
Will they NEVER learn? Are they just hoping that we are all to stupid or easily distracted to notice when they try to pull this kind of garbage?
Just a few months after intense pressure from U.S. citizens triggered the rejection of President Bush's comprehensive immigration plan, a compromise supported by Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass. – the DREAM Act proposal by Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill. – is being rushed through the Senate.
Call your Senator and let them know that this is wrong for the country and wrong for our future!

Go Thompson GO!
He just makes sense. Most notably the following:
End Sanctuary Cities by cutting off discretionary federal grant funds as appropriate to any community...directs its public officials not to comply...regarding the immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of an alien in the United States.
About time! Cut off municipalities and public institutions at the knees for violating U.S. law. Follow that up with strong penalties against businesses that hire illegals. Turn off the benefits and the monies and most illegals will go home to their own countries.
If they want to be in the U.S., let them come legally with a vested interest in making it here and assimilating into American society.
Yes, I know that this next bit is phobic but SO WHAT!
English as Official Language: Make English the official language of the U.S. to promote assimilation and legal immigrants’ success, and require English proficiency in order for any foreign person to be granted lawful permanent resident status.
If I go to France I am expected to speak French, well this is America where we speak and read and write in English. Learn it, live it, love it. Voting, driving, employment, etc. should all be in English and ONLY English. If you can not speak, read and write English, you can not intelligently function in this country. If you can not speak, read or write English you should not be living here. I don't mean visiting, I mean living. Spending years in this country and working at a job and STILL not able to speak English with any proficiency.

Senate Blocks Immigration Bill
Update (6/29/07): Let us NOT forget who voted for this trash! This includes both Martinez (R) and Nelson (D) of Florida! Remember this when it is voting time at home!
Amnesty is dead for now? One can only hope.
Again, this was a poorly written bill that did nothing to actually fix the problem of countless numbers of illegal aliens coming into and staying in America.

Orlando Centennial sure has their priorities in order...
Update (6/29/07): The Centennial ran yet another front page, above the fold story on Disney today. This one to talk about how the 4 teens that were "banned for life" from Disney really are not anymore. They did run a post immigration bill story that was actually on the front page too but this ran below the fold and was a column wide. Great priorities! A week old Disney story still front and center and the defeat of a poorly conceived and written bill gets below the fold mention.
I noticed the front page of the Orlando Centennial today and they were running yet another story on Disney and the Disney crack down on disruptive behavior. This headline was concerning if the new crackdown unfairly targeted black teens. This is the second or third front page article I have seen this week on this topic. I wish the paper had put this much effort into fairly covering the immigration bill working its way through congress as they have to this story. That would have been an important use of the paper, doing in-depth analysis of BOTH the pros and cons of this legislation that though is a national bill, will have local ramifications for generations to come. But no, that would be asking too much of the MSM. They would rather show flattering pictures of poor “undocumented” workers marching to protect “their” rights instead of highlighting the facts around illegal immigration and the costs both to our society and economy.
Yet another reason I prefer the web for any real news on important stories.

Sad, just sad (via Instapundit)
RAMMING THE IMMIGRATION BILL THROUGH FASTER THAN ADVERTISED?
"Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid may be using an 'unprecedented combination of legislative procedures' to push through the controversial Kennedy Immigration Bill - today!"
He couldn't do that if the Republican leadership was determined to stop him. But it's not.
He is so right. The republican leadership has let down their base yet again. Just how long do they think they can do this and not face any consequences? Most likely up until the next election.

He couldn't do that if the Republican leadership was determined to stop him. But it's not.

Immigration bill news here
It looks like the closure vote passed. I can not figure out what congress is thinking on this one. It is a bad bill done poorly. It is NOT good for America or Americans. It is too light on screening and enforcement and makes a mockery of existing laws and safeguards. There is nothing in this bill to "solve" our immigration ills and does nothing to prevent us from having to go through this all again in another dozen years. This is already a repeat of the late 80s.

Enough already...
I do not understand what Kennedy and Pres. Bush are thinking here. A majority of the public want our current immigration laws enforced. We want our borders protected and we want the pandering to illegal aliens to stop and THEY JUST DON'T GET IT!
Have you called congress to tell them enough? I have.
