All I can say is WOW. The ability to turn CAD drawings into physical 3D parts, in color, in just a few hours for less than $50K is unbelievable. If this continues, one day soon, these machines will be cheap enough so that the serious hobbyist will be able to afford one.

This is already happening with laser cutters and automatic CNC machines. Small shops can afford these types of systems today and you can home build a laser cutter your self.
I have seen a couple of home built 3D printers created with Lego parts (one was a chocolate printer). High end hobby versions can not be far behind.
